Alison Thewliss MP, chair of the APPG on Immigration Detention, has written to the Home Secretary Rt Hon. Priti Patel today following the tragic death of Mr Oscar Okwurime at Harmondsworth IRC on 12 September 2019.

In particular the letter calls on Ms Patel to ensure:

• A prompt, thorough and transparent investigation of Mr Okwurime’s death
• Appropriate counselling is made available immediately to those who remain at the centre.

The chair also invites Ms Patel to meet with the group to discuss the issues raised in more detail.
