This notice applies to all data subjects whose data is processed by the APPG on Immigration Detention (‘the APPG’).
Processing of data is carried out on behalf of the APPG by Medical Justice, a charity which provides the secretariat to the APPG on Immigration Detention.
In order to progress our work, we host a number of communication channels such as this website, and email bulletins and newsletters. We rely extensively on email communication to engage with stakeholders.
You have been getting updates and information from the APPG on Immigration Detention and or shown an interest in receiving these.
What information is being collected?
Information that enables us to contact you, and understand your work.
Who is collecting it?
The APPG Chair is the data controller. Medical Justice provides the data processing service, collecting the information and processing it on behalf of the APPG.
How is it collected?
Our principal means of collecting is through email. However, we may also, on occasion, telephone to ask for further information or make you aware of specific issues.
Why is it being collected?
The information is being collected for two purposes. Firstly, to ensure that we can contact you to provide you with information and updates from the APPG. Secondly, to provide an overview (in a non attributable manner — unless with your specific consent) of the work of stakeholders, with an interest in immigration policy and practice.
How will it be used?
Medical Justice will use person data collected from you to contact you by email from time to time with news, updates and information from the APPG.
Medical Justice will process your data (i.e. collect, store and use) on behalf of the APPG according to the requirements of the GDPR at all times and shall endeavour to keep your personal date up-to-date, ensuring its accuracy and will not keep it for longer than is required.
Who will it be shared with?
The APPG Chair and Medical Justice are committed to ensuring that all personal information collected and processed is appropriate for the stated purpose(s). We may share your personal information with third party service providers who are contracted by us to provide emailing services and we shall ensure that they will hold your personal data securely and shall only use it in order to fulfil the service for which they are contracted.
With your agreement, we may share your personal data with stakeholders we believe could help and support your work. Otherwise, we will only share information if required to do so by law.
What will be the effect of this on the individuals concerned?
We do not believe that there will be an adverse impact on individuals. We will not be sharing your contact details with third parties without your consent, but may distribute information we deem appropriate on behalf of third parties. Your rights

Data protection legislation gives you the following rights in relation to personal data held about you:
- You can ask what personal information is held about you and request a copy
- You can ask for personal information to be corrected if there are errors
- You can ask for your personal information to be deleted or for the APPG on Immigration Detention and Medical Justice to stop processing it
- You can request that personal information held about you is sent to you or another organisation in a computer-readable format
Exercising these rights may be subject to certain restrictions under data protection legislation

If you are unhappy with how we are using your personal information you can make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
