“Cancel all plans” for proposed new women’s IRC – joint parliamentary letter to Home Secretary

A group of 76 parliamentarians have today (24 June 2021) written to the Home Secretary urging her to “cancel all plans” for a proposed new Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) for women.

The centre is due to open this autumn on the site of the former Hassockfield Secure Training Centre in County Durham.

The letter was co-ordinated by Alison Thewliss MP (SNP), Chair of the APPG on Immigration Detention and Mary Kelly Foy MP (Labour), Member for the City of Durham.

The full letter is below. You can download a copy here.

The APPG also held a meeting to discuss the new IRC for women earlier this year. A summary of the discussion is available here.
